Mayor Turner will greet homeowners receiving first Harvey reimbursement checks

WHAT: Mayor Turner will join the City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department to distribute the first reimbursement checks to homeowners for recovery from Hurricane Harvey. .

10th Annual Galveston Island Wine Festival

The 10th Annual Galveston Island Wine Festival returns April 26th and 27th to Saengerfest Park at 23rd and Strand. This festival features approximately 100 wines from more than 25 vineyards around the world. Attendees can enjoy a Grand Tasting tour, a variety of sampling, and live music. The City of Galveston will have 23rd Street between Harborside and Strand temporarily closed on Saturday, April 27th from approximately 6:00am to 8:00pm to accommodate the festival.

A Champagne 5K Fun Run will also take place at 9:00am on Saturday, April 27th, beginning at 28th and Seawall (Beerfoot Brewery). The 5K will run along the south side of Seawall (sidewalk) from approximately 28th Street to 49th Street and back. No traffic impact is anticipated for the 5K.

AG Paxton’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit Assists Feds in Obtaining Health Care Fraud Convictions of Five Individuals Sentenced to Federal Prison

AUSTIN – Investigative work by the decorated Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office helped federal prosecutors obtain convictions and prison sentences in two home health care fraud cases against five individuals who cheated Medicaid and Medicare out of nearly $4.5 million.

“By billing Medicare and Medicaid for services never provided, these individuals and their companies diverted healthcare dollars from the most vulnerable among us and defrauded taxpayers,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Through effective collaboration with our federal law enforcement partners, the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of my office will continue to investigate health care fraud schemes and help bring these criminals to justice.”

The draft technical reports are available on the website and at the TxDOT Houston District Office located at 7600 Washington Avenue, Houston, TX 77007- Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., excluding state holidays. WACO, Texas – Baylor University today announced a $15 million leadership gift from The Sunderland Foundation of Overland Park, Kansas, that will provide significant support for one of the University’s highest priority endeavors within its Give Light philanthropic campaign: the renovation and restoration of the iconic Tidwell Bible Building. The project is among the nearly $300 million in capital improvements planned as part of the campaign that will support Illuminate, the University’s academic strategic plan.

On the lawn of the historically rich building, Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., joined Michelle Buckner, B.A. (Religion) ’16, a member of the board of trustees of The Sunderland Foundation, to sign the official gift acknowledgement.
