AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Bena Glasscock to the State Board for Educator Certification for a term set to expire on February 1, 2027. The board develops certification and continuing education requirements and standards of conduct for public school teachers.

 

Bena Glasscock of Adrian is the Child Services Coordinator for Hereford Independent School District and serves as the campus counselor for the Hereford Center for Accelerated Learning, the alternative high school program. She is a member and former president of the Texas School Counselor Association and a member of the Texas Counseling Association, Texas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, American School Counselor Association, Lone Star State School Counselor Association, and the High Plains Counseling Association. Additionally, she is a teacher at Adrian Church of Christ and a former campus coordinator for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Glasscock received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, a Master of Education in Counseling from Tarleton State University, and a Principal Certification from West Texas A&M University.

AUSTIN, TX - The City of Austin Economic Development Department announces the award of an additional $2.8 million to 20 local legacy businesses as Phase 2 of the Austin Legacy Business Relief Grant continues. Awardees will receive monthly payments of up to $140,000 over the course of six months. This will bring the total of distributed dollars in both phases to $5 million by October 2021.

OKLAHOMA CITY –– Thunder/Chosen closed out Labor Day weekend at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex by earning the 2021 USA Softball Men’s Class A Slow Pitch National Championship title with a 41-33 victory over Kut4 Sports/Ol Livingston/D2E. Thunder posted an undefeated 5-0 record en route to the Championship hardware while scoring 30 or more runs in each of their contests with a combined total of 49 home runs on the weekend.

AUSTIN –  Governor Greg Abbott today issued a proclamation announcing Tuesday, September 28, 2021 as the special election date for the Texas State House of Representatives District 118 seat recently vacated by Representative Leo Pacheco. 

 

Candidates who wish to have their names placed on the special election ballot must file their applications with the Secretary of State no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Cassie Brown as the Commissioner of Insurance for a term set to expire on February 1, 2023.


Cassie Brown of Austin has served as the Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation since June 2018. Previously, she served as is deputy commissioner for Regulatory Policy at the Texas Department of Insurance. In addition, she served as a policy advisor to Governor Rick Perry. Brown received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Edward’s University, and attended the Governor’s Executive Development Program at The University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Jon Niermann to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for a term set to expire on August 31, 2027. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality protects the state's public health and natural resources consistent with sustainable economic development.


Jon Niermann of Austin was first appointed to TCEQ in September 2015, and has served as Chairman since September 2018. Previously, he served as chief of the Environmental Protection Division in the Texas Attorney General’s Office, and as an attorney at Baker Botts, L.L.P., where he was recognized with the Judge Thomas Gibbs Gee Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service and the Judge Suzanne Covington Pro Bono Service Award. He is a member of the American College of Environmental Lawyers, Western States Water Council, and the Good Neighbor Environmental Board. Additionally, he represents Texas on the Environmental Council of States. Niermann received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oregon.

USA Takes Fourth at NORCECA Continental Championship
