GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern women's soccer scored multiple goals for the first time since the season's opening week, defeating the University of St. Thomas 2-1 in a non-conference game between conference rivals. 


The Pirates controlled possession for most of the

first half, firing off eight shots to St. Thomas's one, including five on goal. Reigning SCAC Defensive Player of the Week, Briana Salas was solid in the net for St. Thomas, keeping the game scoreless at the break with five saves. 


Southwestern finally broke through four minutes into the second half for the game's first goal. Forward Juilet Pridgen went on a long run down the right sideline into the corner, finding Samantha Hazen, who made the quick pass to Melanie Saldana for the score. 


Twenty minutes later, Juliet Pridgen added an insurance goal on another quick, three-pass series from corner to the front of an empty net, ending with Madison Koehn finding Juliet Pridgen for the score. 


St. Thomas made the game interesting with a goal at the 74:22 mark on a well-placed Laura Saravia shot that just eluded Southwestern goalie Johnna Campbell


Southwestern ended the game with a 19-12 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. With the win, the Pirates improve to 7-1. Southwestern will host Centenary on Sunday.
