COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado -- The #18 Southwestern Pirates fended off late-set Bulldogs rallies in the 2nd and 4th sets to win the match in four sets 3-1 (16-25, 22-25, 25-18, 17-25) Friday afternoon on the campus of Colorado College.


Texas Lutheran lost the first two sets but battled

back to put the Pirates on their heels winning the third set after a competitive second set. The Pirates jumped out to an 18-8 advantage in the fourth set before closing out the Bulldogs 26-24 in the fourth.


TLU's Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) had 9 kills to lead all Bulldogs and finish second amongst any player in the match. The Needville, Texas native hit .412 with 9 kills on 17 total attacks. Tanyse Moehrig-Woodard (Spring Branch/Smithson Valey) followed close behind finishing the match with 8 kills. As a team, Texas Lutheran hit .098 for the match.


Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) had 14 assists for the Bulldogs while fellow freshman Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) finished the match with 10 assists. Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) added to her conference leading digs tally finishing the match with 16 digs. Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) led the Bulldogs in points finishing the match with 11.0 points, 6 kills, 2 service aces, and 4 blocks - 2 solo.


TLU falls to 6-5 on the season. Southwestern is 10-0.
