SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran Men's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw against the St. Thomas Celts Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field.

The Bulldogs are now 4-2-1 while the Celts move

to 4-1-2.

The match was physical from the first whistle to final time in double overtime.

The Celts opened the scoring with a goal in the 43rd minute to take 1-0 advantage into halftime. The Celts carried this lead for the majority of the match as their defense kept the Bulldogs away from getting any good looks offensively. That all changed in the closing minutes as Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico) was able to elude the Celts defense and push one past their goal keeper for the equalizer in the 88th minute - his sixth goal of the season. The two teams were only able to muster three shot attempts in the two overtime periods as momentum swung back and forth but no team was able to secure the necessary "golden goal" to break the tie before full-time in double overtime.

As proof of how tightly contested the match was, the two teams both finished with 11 shots a piece. The Celts held an advantage in shots on-goal 4-1. The Bulldogs had more corner kicks than the Celts holding a 12-6 advantage. Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) had three saves for the Bulldogs. There were a total of 26 fouls called as well as three yellow cards and a red card. All cards were against St. Thomas.

The Bulldogs are on the road next Friday as they travel to face Colorado College for their first SCAC conference game of the season.
