The Patriots shot just 26.9% on the day, but held St. Mary’s to just 24.4% to take home the win.
TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's basketball moved to 13-2 on the year and and 8-1 in LSC play after a 37-31 victory over St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
UT Tyler shot just 14-for-52 on the day and made just five three pointers but they held St. Mary's to just 11-for-45 from the field and seven three pointers.
Ella Bradley led the Patriots with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting while making a pair of three pointers while also adding four rebounds, three assists, and posting four steals.
The cold shooting began early for both sides as the Patriots took a 7-3 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play. Bradley knocked in the first five points for the Patriots, leading to a 5-0 lead for UT Tyler. The Rattlers would finally break the seal on the basket with 1:23 remaining in the first quarter by way of a three pointer, but Meagan Mendazona tacked on two free throws in the final minute to close out the quarter.
The Rattlers would go on an 8-2 run over the first 3:25 of the second quarter, but those would be the only eight points of the quarter for St. Mary's. That run led to an 11-9 lead, but three pointers from Ella Bradley and a buzzer-beater from Shaylee McDonald gave the Patriots a 15-11 advantage at the half.
The third quarter saw a dramatic uptick in scoring, as both teams scored 16 each. The Patriots shot 7-for-15 in the period as Mileina Sablinskaite and Lovisa Hevinder each scored 5 points to lead the way on offense. The Rattlers kept pace, largely due to making four three pointers in the period as they trailed by four heading into the final quarter.
Ella Bradley knocked in another three pointer to begin the fourth quarter, and Mariah Neal added a clutch and-one to give the Patriots a 6-0 run over the first three minutes. The Rattlers would be held to just one made field goal in the period and two free throws as the Patriots took home the win.
Lovisa Hevinder scored seven points and added team-highs in both rebounds (9) and assists (5).
#11/14 UT Tyler now sets their sights on Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville in a two game road trip. The Patriots will next be back inside the Herrington Patriot Center on January 23rd at 5 p.m. to take on Eastern New Mexico.
