Beaches of Pensacola Now Accessible for All Thanks to Mobi-Mat Installation

Pensacola, Fla. – Sugar-white sand and emerald green water on the beaches of Pensacola are now accessible for all thanks to the installment of five Mobi-mats on Pensacola Beach. Mobi-Mats are a non-slip matting laid down over the sand that provides grip and easy access for wheelchairs, strollers, and pedestrians on unstable surfaces.

Funded by the Santa Rosa Island Authority and deployed by Escambia County Public Works, the mats will be located on five beaches along the island: 

• Casino Beach: A Mobi-Mat is located east of the Public Safety Building, and one is stationed west of The Dock Bar.
• Park West: One mat is located on the sound (north) side near the two pavilions.
• Moms Beach (Quietwater Beach): A Mobi-Mat is stationed near the lifeguard tower.
• Boardwalk Beach: A mat is located just east of the Quietwater Beach shell.
• Baby Beach: A Mobi-Mat is located off Avenida 18 on the sound side.

Furthermore, beach wheelchairs, both electric and traditional, are available for rent from several vendors along Pensacola Beach.

Putt-Putt FunHouse Celebrates 40 Years of Local Family Fun

Webster, Texas - Putt-Putt FunHouse in Webster, TX is celebrating its 40^th anniversary on Saturday, June 15, and has been the Bay Area’s main Family Entertainment Center for four decades.  Past employees throughout the decades will be returning to the Houston area to celebrate and congratulate the original co-owners who are still operating the FunHouse, Jim and Carol Saxe.  Will you consider sharing this positive, heart-warming story about a local business that with your audience?

Coast Guard medevacs boater near Baffin Bay, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — According to the Coast Guard, The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a boat near Baffin Bay, Texas, Sunday morning.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received notification that after a recreational boat ran aground, its three passengers had sustained injuries and needed to be medevaced off the boat.

A Sector/Air Station Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter aircrew arrived and medevaced a man from the boat to Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline in Corpus Christi, Texas.

A Texas Parks and Wildlife boat crew transferred a second person to emergency medical services, and a third person was medevaced by a HALO flight emergency medical services aircrew. Both were taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline.

The man's condition is unknown.

Coast Guard prepares for 2019 hurricane season

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi reminds the public and mariners to prepare for the 2019 hurricane season.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, with the peak occurring between mid-August and late October.

“It is vitally important for you and your family to have a hurricane preparedness plan set in place,” said Capt. Ed Gaynor, commanding officer, Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi. “In addition to ensuring you have survival equipment and procedures in place, it is critical that all boaters pay close attention to the weather both ashore and out at sea, and heed messages and evacuation orders issued by authorities. Coast Guard assets will be active both pre and post storm, but may be unavailable during the storm itself due to heavy weather limitations.”

In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season, the Coast Guard has reviewed and updated its severe weather plan and initiated hurricane season measures to protect Coast Guard assets and personnel. In addition the Coast Guard exercises hurricane and heavy weather contingency plans and trains with state, local, port, and industry partners to ensure the maritime community is ready. It is incumbent upon all mariners to be prepared and remain safe and out of harm’s way during a hurricane.

For boating and waterfront communities, the key to protecting boats from hurricanes or any severe threatening weather is planning, preparation, and timely action.

Develop a plan of action to:

Secure your vessel in a marina.
If permitted, remove your boat from the threatened area, or take your boat to a previously identified hurricane refuge.
Specifically identify and assemble needed equipment and supplies. Keep them together and practice your plan to ensure it works.
