2021 Men's Class C Slow Pitch National Championship: Day One Recap

OKLAHOMA CITY – Thirty-five teams took the field today in the 2021 USA Softball Men’s Class C Slow Pitch National Championship, and only 24 remain in the hunt for the Championship trophy after Day One of the double-elimination tournament.

Garnering an undefeated record so far, eight teams remain in the winner’s bracket after the first day of play: VHI/Greater Than, Stagecoach/Crest Exteriors, The Mill/A3, Northwoods Elite, Trinity/Big Dawg Sublimation, Demars Softball, Shameless/Budweiser, Minnesota Maniax/Easton/H Auto.

Over 300 runs were scored on Day One with Russell’s Paint & Body picking up the biggest win of the day with a 28-0 shutout victory over SWOK Outlaws. Racking up 27 hits in the contest, Russell’s Paint & Body’s offense combined for seven doubles and three home runs including two long balls off the bat of Tyler Storey.

The competition intensified throughout the day with 11 games decided by three runs or less including seven walk-off wins. The Mill/A3 shocked Dick Raimann Farms/Garage Force Excel Homes with a come-from-behind walk-off win after being down 17-8 in the fourth inning. A triple from Ronnie Anderson in the fifth gave The Mill the spark they needed to score 10 runs in the final three innings to seal the 18-17 victory.

Closing out the night was Demars Softball with a 19-18 walk-off win against Kass & Co. Down by seven runs in the final inning, Charles Celotto got things going for Demars with an infield single before scoring on a double from Casey Tyler. Slowly chipping away at the lead, Demars tacked on six more runs to tie the game, 18-18. Situational hitting from Brian Masiello moved Anthony Miller to third base for Celotto to finish what he started with an RBI single to right field to walk-off the game and allow Demars Softball to advance in the winner’s bracket.

The loser’s bracket will kick off the action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT with the winner’s bracket taking the field at 11:30 a.m. CT. Only three teams will make it through the day and punch their ticket to Championship Sunday with the title game slated for 10:30 a.m. CT and the “if-necessary” game scheduled for 12 p.m. CT.
