Austin, Texas - The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board is currently conducting a nationwide search for the next Texas Commissioner of Higher Education. The Commissioner is appointed by the Board to provide leadership for higher education in Texas. The Commissioner serves as CEO, directing the 264-person staff with a $32 million operating budget and a further $1.7 billion disbursed under its supervision. The Commissioner is the primary advocate for the strategic plan, 60x30TX, and for the critical role that higher education plays in maintaining economic competitiveness and quality of life in Texas. He/she also works to develop higher education policy that improves student access and success, meets state goals and priorities, raises educational excellence, and promotes cost efficiency.
